The Paralympics have always been a great inspiration to me. It was a great honour to have contributed one of my songs (Shine) as the first official theme song for the Paralympic Team during the Tokyo 2020 Games. During the past two years, I was fortunate to meet with several of Canada’s top Paralympians and these engagements had a profound positive impact on me. It gave me the strength and courage to move forward despite having our world turned upside down due to the Pandemic. Witnessing their resilience and determination while they competed at the Tokyo Games last summer, reignited my passion for writing music. I realized that being a Champion is far greater than winning a medal. It’s about our inner strength, our will to push harder when barriers appear. It is the essence of the Paralympic spirit. Once again, I was compelled to share my appreciation of our great Paralympic athlete through song writing. It is something that is deeply rooted in my heart and want to share with everyone, for them to have hope that anything is possible, and we all have our inner “champion”. The song really resonated with the Paralympic Team, and I am honoured that it will be part of the coverage for the Beijing 2022 Games March 4-13 on CBC/Radio-Canada. Collaborating with the talented Eva Avila, musicians and technician and the Canadian Paralympic Team to compose and perform Champion, has been a remarkable experience that I will always be grateful for.
